What to Check on Your Car In-Between Seasons
Spring brings warm weather, but rarely with any consistency. While it might not be as snowy as it was, rapidly fluctuating temperatures can do a number on your vehicle. Here are a few things you can do to check on your vehicle as spring approaches:
- Inspect your tires: Temperature changes can cause your tires to lose air pressure, while driving in snow can cause you to inadvertently run over nails or other debris.
- Check your A/C: Since it hasn’t been in use all winter, it’s a good idea to make sure your vents still blow cold air on command.
- Check your brakes: It’s always important to stay attuned to them, regardless of the season.
- Check your windshield wipers: Spring means rain, so make sure you have the visibility you need.
These basic inspections are a great place to start this spring. If you find you keep losing pressure in a tire, or you need new windshield wipers, visit our Toyota Service Center to get your vehicle back in shape.
When to Change From Winter Tires to All-Season Tires
You don’t want to use your winter tires any longer than you need to, but swapping them out just to get hit with more snow is always frustrating. While swapping your tires is up to you, most large tire manufacturers recommend switching from Winter tires to All-Season tires when day and night temperatures are consistently above 45 degrees. Of course, you also want to ensure there’s no lingering frost, ice, or snow on the roads. Usually, you can switch your tires out between late March and mid-April, just keep an eye on the weather to be sure.
Post-Winter Damage Inspection
Driving through snow and ice is tough on your Toyota, and at the end of a heavy winter, it’s always a good idea to bring your car in for a post-winter inspection. This can be done alongside your next oil change, to save you time at our service center. During our Spring inspection, we’ll do an undercarriage wash and protection treatment to help with salt and rust damage. We’ll also do a car battery health check to ensure your battery is still in good shape after enduring the cold. We’ll also take a look for more substantial damage, like cracked windshields from ice and frost, and chipped paint caused by driving over gravel.
